AFT Summer Educator Academy

The AFT Summer Educator Academy is a seven-day event providing union-sponsored, research-based professional development that addresses the complexities of teaching. The program is designed to help local unions build their capacity to deliver high-quality professional development services to all educators—teachers, paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel. Educators who attend SEA receive research-based information to build their pedagogy and content knowledge as well as develop strategies to engage students for academic success.

The Summer Educator Academy will take place July 17-24, 2020 at the Maritime Conference Center (692 Maritime Blvd., Linthicum Heights, MD 21090). Attendees are expected to lead at least 1 45-hour professional development course to Baltimore Teachers Union educators during the 2020-2021 school year (an opportunity for 4-6 additional AUs per course) and participate in the BTU Educational Issues Committee. PSRPs are not eligible to earn AUs, so they will earn a stipend of $500 for attending Summer Educator Academy, paid in two installments.

The application to Summer Educator Academy consists of four short answer questions, a resume, and two references. To apply for Summer Educator Academy, please complete the online application. *NEW* Click here to view the SEA Application Rubric.
