The Baltimore Teachers Union organized a Baltimore City Mayoral Candidate Forum for March
28th, and obviously had to cancel the event to maintain the safety and health of the community. In its place, the BTU COPE Committee has scheduled interviews with individual candidates which we will broadcast live on our public Facebook page. We hope that these interviews will serve to inform you in advance of casting your own vote, and there will be opportunities to ask questions in the chat box which the moderators will pull from during the conversation.
The schedule is as follows:
Monday, 4/27 @4pm: Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young
Tuesday, 4/28 @4pm: TJ Smith
Wednesday 4/29 @5pm: Sheila Dixon
Thursday 4/30 @5pm: Thiru Vignarajah
Friday 5/1 @5pm: Council President Brandon Scott
If you cannot make one of these times don’t worry, you will be able to watch the recorded interviews at your convenience. If you’d like to submit a question in advance for a candidate please email it to Corey Gaber at cgaber@baltu.org. Each of the candidates filled out thorough questionnaires from AFT-MD on education and other important issues in the city, you can find their responses here.
These interviews are open to the general public, though questions from members will be prioritized over non-members. Please share the attached flyer and Facebook event widely! We look forward to “seeing you” next week!
