Upcoming Virtual Opportunity Designed to Specifically Support the Mental and Emotional Health of High School-Aged Students!

The Healing City Summit will take place February 28 to March 5 with March 2 specifically designed for young people ages 14-24. The summit is being hosted in partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools and is focused on building community, increasing trust, and increasing healing–both individually and collectively.

Healing City’s organizers are hoping to involve as many youth as possible, and is asking teachers to help by spreading the word to your students, colleagues, and families! This event could be a good virtual field trip and could accommodate as many or as few students as you think might want to attend.

Healing City Baltimore may be of particular interest to:

  • English Teachers (there are sessions with CHARM Lit Magazine and Dewmore — both focused on writing as a healing process)

  • Technology/Media teachers (there is a session with Wide Angle Youth Media),

  • Student Government & Leadership Group Teachers (there is a session from the Maryland Youth Advisory Council and the Emerging Leaders Committee)

  • Health Teachers & School Social Workers (so much content centered on mental health including NAMI, House of Ruth, and Roberta’s House).

The summit has a day designed specifically by youth, for youth on Wednesday, March 2 from 11 am – 3:30 pm. Youth are leading a day full of VIRTUAL healing-focused conversations, workshops, panels, and performances for 2022 Healing City Summit. Topics covered at the summit include entrepreneurship, art, writing and storytelling as healing practices, discussions around confidence and being “the best you”, and using humor to heal—just to name a few. We will be closing the day with a Cypher that all are welcome to join!

Teachers and other leaders of youth can register students collectively to attend as a virtual field trip, or students can register individually to participate on their own.

Register for FREE herehttps://healingcitybaltimore.com/summit2022/

Healing City Baltimore is working to curate bags that are focused on healing as part of the summit! The bags will have t-shirts, art and writing contributed by Baltimoreans, treats, and other resource items that will connect you to organizations and individuals who are doing healing work across the city. These boxes are limited and not guaranteed. However, we are prioritizing young people. Please make sure to register for bags through Whova in order to be considered. We will be coordinating drop off at schools for teachers who want to register their class.

BTU NEEDS TO KNOW!

Substituting and safety violations are widespread, but BTU Staff doesn’t know about it, unless we hear from you.

PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORMS BELOW IF YOU ARE SUBSTITUTING (OR “COVERING”) OR IF  YOU’RE CONCERNED BY HEALTH AND SAFETY GAPS IN YOUR SCHOOL(S) OR WORKSITES.

FILL OUT THE SUBSTITUTE SURVEY

Whenever you serve as a substitute, whether for just a short period of time or a whole day, BTU leadership requests that you fill out this form to help us collect data and better advocate for policies that support fully staffed, well-functioning schools.

This form does NOT take the place of contacting a BTU Field Rep if you believe a contract violation has occurred, or in the case of PSRPs, you are owed additional pay for subbing. Always contact your Field Representative when you believe the contract is being violated.
