Good afternoon members,
The Baltimore Teachers Union has consistently maintained the position since the summer that in person learning should be expanded only when it’s safe. We define safety based on the health metrics put forward by the CDC and City Schools own community indicators. On every major indicator we remain in the highest risk of introduction and transmission of COVID-19 in schools category, and far beyond City Schools’ own decision-making tree category of “limited or no in person programs.” For these reasons amongst others, we vehemently oppose City Schools reopening plan announced on 1/14.You can read our full statement here. Liking and sharing/retweeting our statements on Facebook and Twitter makes a difference as well!
Based on requests from membership, we’re organizing an emergency general membership meeting on Tuesday, 1/19, from 5:00-7:00pm. Please click here to register, in order to protect the safety of the meeting only verified members who complete the registration will be sent login information. We are also gathering data about members views’ on getting the vaccine and its impact on your comfort with returning to in person learning. Please fill out this vaccine survey, knowing that no individual information will be shared with district leadership or principals.
In solidarity,
President Diamonté Brown
