“On Tuesday, at 10:30 am in front of Baltimore City Hall, Councilmembers Zeke Cohen, Shannon Sneed, Delegate Stephanie Smith and students from Students Organizing a Multicultural Open Society held a press conference to ask Comcast to help close the digital divide.The digital divide has been an ongoing problem for City school students.
Kimberly Vasquez, a SOMOS organizer and subscriber to Internet Essentials, shared that “every morning, there is an issue of who has priority to use the internet: the parent who needs to work and provide for their family or the student who needs to pass their classes.” SOMOS advisor and teacher, Franca Muller Paz, worries “how many students will we lose during this crisis that we will never get back?”
